The vocal interplay between a soloist & a group of people, or perhaps a vocal back & forth between two groups of people. May this not be limited to music, but can be observed in Black churches across the U.S. and surely is an West African retention in the music of Black folks across the African diaspora. Instruments (bodily included-look to hambone) can be the focal point of call-and-response as well.
Check out the Clark Sisters vocally (sangin us under the damn table) display call-and-response.
